Arizona football recruiting: Braxton Burmeister, Brian Casteel and Nathan Tilford rack up touchdowns

How did Arizona commits do this weekend?

This 2017 recruiting class is something special for the Arizona Wildcats. The coaching staff has tapped into winning programs and have started landing guys who are focal points on both sides of the ball.

It’s unfortunate that a lot of teams aren’t updating their MaxPreps rosters throughout the season. I’ve raided the Internet to try and round up the best from the 2017 Arizona commits this week.

We’re starting to see the usual names dominate this list, including Nathan Tilford, Brian Casteel and Braxton Burmeister. The three combined for 14 touchdowns on Friday night, giving Rich Rodriguez all the offensive pieces he needs.

Nathan Tilford dominates early

I’m not even sure how you get six possessions in 13 minutes, but it was done. And Nathan Tilford had himself a night.

He had 306 yards and four touchdowns in the season opener two weeks ago. Last week, he was shut down by Arizona commit Scott Young and the Helix defense.

They ended up winning 67-18. Should have put up 100.

Jalen Harris suffers minor injury

After limping off the field in the first half, Jalen Harris was held out of the second half with ice on his knee.

Braxton Burmeister continues to shine

No official stats have been posted for the 4-star quarterback, but he threw five touchdowns in a win over La Jolla to advance to 2-1 on the season. It appears as if he was frustrating the defense, as a player tried to take a swing at him after a play.

Burmeister is the quarterback of the future for Arizona.

Vote Bryce Wolma as the top tight end in Michigan

No statistics have been available for Wolma all season, but you can vote for him as the top tight end in the state of Michigan. He’s currently second by an overwhelming amount, not too far behind first.

Darrian McNeal is going to make guys miss

Now in his role at wide receiver, McNeal’s getting solid reps to prepare himself for Arizona. You can’t teach his ability to make defenders miss.

Rich Rodriguez watches Rhett

Looks like Rich was able to get away from the team hotel on Friday night and watch his son for a bit. Catalina Foothills was able to come away with a 63-7 win over Flowing Wells.

Sabino, Drew Dixon suffer first loss of the season

3-star wide receiver commit Drew Dixon has been running out of the backfield this season in a new running back role. But it appears as if Sabino wanted to mix things up this week, throwing him back at quarterback.

He finished 11-of-20 for 103 yards and threw one interception. He also added 15 carries for 94 yards and his only touchdown on the night. Sabino lost 7-10 on the road to Mission Hills (CA).

Bryce Gilbert continues to attract defenses

It was clear that last week St. Mary’s focused their entire defense around stopping Bryce Gilbert. Now in a big matchup against Saguaro, it appears as if they took Gilbert out of the game once again, leaving him with one catch for 15 yards. He was being covered by 4-star safety KJ Jarrell.

It continues to open things up for the other receivers on the team, which is why Gilbert wasn’t too frustrated by the lack of looks.

Higley lost 15-49 at home.

Brian Casteel scores three touchdowns from the goal line

The 3-star wide receiver is quickly becoming one of my favorite prospects of this class. He continues to show up every week and tear defenses apart. This week, he had three touchdowns — two rushing and one receiving — from within the five yard line.

Greg Johnson snags interception

The 4-star corner had an interception this weekend. He also finished off a drive with a 2-yard touchdown run.
