Arizona football recruiting: 3-star offensive guard Cody Shear verbally commits to Wildcats

Another offensive line commitment for the 2017 class

The Arizona Wildcats had their calendar marked for July 5th, Cody Shear's set commitment date.

He apparently couldn't wait that long to commit to Arizona though.

It came down to three schools for his services: Arizona, Oregon State and Washington State, despite strong interest from Georgia Tech, Virginia and 25+ others.

The staff had been in great position to land the 3-star offensive guard since the beginning of the summer and with so many commitments in the last month, Shear was worried that he could miss out on his chance to commit to Arizona. But this was one to be expected.

Shear's commitment comes just a few weeks after his unofficial visit.

"It was fantastic," he said about his visit. "I met with Coach Rodriguez, Coach Michalzcik, Coach Singletary, the academic advisers and even some of the players. I was with my family and we were just blown away."

"My family and I were asking about this recruiting class and how fast it's all moving right now," Shear continued. "They're bringing in a lot of great talent and the staff was telling me that they want me on board."

Shear is a 6-foot-4, 285 pound human being that probably wouldn't have much trouble moving over to center if necessary. I really enjoyed talking to Shear throughout his recruitment process. He's truly a guy of high character, much like Michael Eletise. Coming out of Sheldon (Eugene, OR), this is a nice Pacific Northwest piece that could have easily waited for Oregon or Washington to come through with an offer.

I believe that Arizona is in play for only one more offensive lineman, Tucker Robertson, a 3-star offensive tackle. That should round out the offensive lineman commitments, as the Wildcats have an extremely young stable of talented linemen that Jim Michalzcik is happy with.

Shear's junior year highlights are below.
