Arizona baseball: Nick Quintana will not sign with Boston Red Sox

The Wildcats will be bringing in a big time recruit next year

Friday is the deadline for MLB Draft picks to sign with their teams, and it appears Arizona Wildcats signee Nick Quintana will end up in college rather than signing with the Red Sox.

After Boston made a flurry of moves on Thursday, including signing Bobby Dalbec to an above-slot deal, they were left with somewhere under $100k remaining in their signing bonus pool. Quintana’s 11th-round value was $100k, so they could have offered him between $100k-175k approximately.

Quintana is a huge get for the Arizona coaching staff. The infielder out of Las Vegas was named to MaxPreps’ All-American Team. He hit at a .438 clip this year, with 58 RBI and 15 home runs. Arizona's coaches were not expecting him to fall to the 11th round.

With the departures of Dalbec, Cody Ramer and Ryan Aguilar, Quintana should slide right into an infield starting spot in his freshman season.

Despite not signing with the team, Quintana did at least get the full Red Sox experience, visiting Fenway the weekend before the signing deadline.
