Sonoran Hot Reads: Arizona baseball projected to host NCAA Regional
This would be some kind of turnaround
The Arizona Wildcats are hot. How hot? They've won seven of their last eight, eight of their last ten, and ten of their last 13, including four-straight on the road in the last six days. That run has them leading the Pac-12 with ten wins, and according to the guys at D1Baseball, has vaulted Arizona into a projected Regional host position. Right now, D1Baseball has the Wildcats hosting Wright State, Vanderbilt and Cal Poly in the first weekend of the NCAA postseason. That would be crazy in Jay Johnson's first year, and after this team has missed the postseason the last three seasons
- On the flip side, College Baseball Daily says Arizona is still a two-seed, bound for the UC-Santa Barbara Regional. In reality, the West Coast has not been very good at baseball this year in general, and that could end up working in Arizona's advantage when the selection committee is selecting a Pacific time zone host
- The hot Wildcats open a three-game series on Thursday night against USC. The game starts at 7 PM PT on Pac-12 Networks
- Let's hope that we get to see Matt Hartman and Tyler Crawford pitch back-to-back at some point so we can watch them hand off the pitching glasses again
Basketball
- Terrance Ferguson and Lauri Markkanen are 15th and 16th respectively in 247's final 2016 class ranking
- Arizona finished 3rd in ESPN's final class rankings
- The Arizona/Gonzaga game in December at Staples Center is officially official
Five bucks says @UACoachMiller flips on @NBATV, sees the crowd and assumes it’s a UCLA game.
