Sonoran Hot Reads: Ryan Anderson named National Player of the Week

The first Arizona player to ever win the award

We've already seen plenty of praise roll in for Ryan Anderson after his dominant weekend in Washington, but on Tuesday, he earned a first in Arizona Wildcats history. Anderson was named the Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week by the US Basketball Writers Association, and is actually the third-straight Pac-12 player to win the award, following the lead of Jakob Poeltl and Dillon Brooks.

- Anderson will have a chance to redeem himself against USC this weekend after a poor outing against the Trojans last time these teams met. We chatted about that and more in this week's roundtable

- Pat Forde took a long look at the state of the Pac-12, and also had a pretty interesting Q&A with Bobby Hurley

- Eamonn Brennan thinks Oregon is the only Pac-12 team locked into the field, and that Arizona still has some work to do

- Rawle Alkins will be in town this weekend on an official visit. This could be a big deal, considering he was just in Tucson on an unofficial visit two weeks ago

Football

- Spring football starts Friday. ESPN has Arizona 7th in the post-National Signing Day power rankings. The Wildcats were 10th before, so that's a nice bump up

- Arizona has the 9th-easiest non-conference schedule next year apparently

Other sports

- Women's golf finished 10th out of 16 teams at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge

- The swimming and diving Pac-12 All-Century team was released, and Arizona had four former Wildcats make the squad

Tucson news

- One person was arrested after a house fire on the south side

- The fire started by an Air Force training accident is now over 1,000 acres

- Nine people have died at Skydive Arizona in Eloy since December 2013, and Tuesday's was the third since New Year's Eve
