Arizona football recruiting: Who will walk on for the Wildcats in 2016

Taking a peek at who will be walking on for Arizona this season

The Arizona Wildcats will be adding a few walk-ons this fall and I've been able to scavenge the Internet to find as many as I can. So far I've been able to account for six of them and there's a strong possibility of landing one more, depending on his search for a late Division I offer. For now, I've broken down the seven below. If there's a walk-on I missed, feel free to let me know in the comment section below so I can add them to the list.

Tate Shumway, outside linebacker

A 6-3 210lb quarterback/outside linebacker out of Desert Ridge High School (Mesa, AZ), Shumway led his team to an 11-3 record. He also runs track and field at Desert Ridge, competing in the 100, 200 and 4x100 meter.

On the football field, he's been a three-year contributor for the varsity squad, making a huge impact on the defensive side of he ball. As a senior, he finished with 94 total tackles, good for third on his team, also adding two sacks and two interceptions. His senior highlights are below.

If anything, he'll add much-needed size to the linebacker group. We've seen plenty of defensive guys make their ways from walk-on to scholarship and Tate Shumway could be seen as one of those guys. He has great speed for his size and will be a great addition to the team.

Donald Reiter, long-snapper

Here Arizona landed a 5-star long-snapper, one of the top 50 prospects in the nation. Reiter hails from Brophy Prep in Phoenix, AZ, checking in at 6-0 240lbs. Brophy Prep was also the home of another special teams walk-on for Arizona, Casey Skowron. Reiter's senior year highlights are below. His snaps are quick and tight and it's really a thing of beauty to watch.

Josh McCauley, center

Arizona is getting one of the biggest high school offensive linemen in the state of Arizona with Josh McCauley, who sits in at 6-3 265lbs out of Red Mountain High School (Mesa, AZ). His team went 4-7 in 2015.

If rushing stats are any indication as to how good an offensive line is, the running backs averaged four yards a carry, with about 147 yards per game. Although when a team is 4-7, I'm not so sure the team is going to be running the ball a lot, so maybe that's not a good indication. His senior year highlights are below.

Jalen Jenkins, strong safety

Jenkins is a defensive back product out of Mesa Community College (Mesa, AZ). He checks in at 6-0 185lbs and recorded five interceptions and a grand total of 19 tackles last season.

Mesa CC went 3-8, giving up 31 points a game compared to their 25 points a game. The problem seemed to be the rushing defense, giving up 220 rushing yards a game to 170 through the air, so it seems as if Jalen Jenkins was a pretty solid coverage man. His sophomore year highlights at Mesa are below.

Justus Lee, wide receiver

Lee is a 5-10 180lb two-way player out of Liberty Christian High School (Argyle, TX). According to MaxPreps, his team went 6-5 on the season and that's about all we know. His coaches did not input any statistics, so that's nice. Luckily, I was able to find his Hudl, which is below.

Isaac Steele, quarterback/defensive back

A Centennial High School product, Steele played quarterback, as well as some defense. He threw for over 2,000 yards and 12 touchdowns to eight interceptions. He served as a dual-threat option, rushing for over 350 yards and 15 touchdowns as well. The Coyotes went 12-2 on the season, taking down Desert Ridge for the State Championship.

He recorded 30 tackles and three interceptions as a defensive back. His highlights below are of him playing defensive back. A 6-2 180lb defensive back sounds pretty nice.

Quinton Gomez, running back/safety

Another Centennial product here, the 5-9, 180lb running back/safety also helped his team to a 12-2 record and State Championship. He averaged nearly seven yards a carry for almost 1,500 yards on the season, adding 15 touchdowns. He had 29 tackles, one interception, and three pass deflections, but given his production, it seems likely that he will come in as a running back.

Walk-on running backs don't exactly make their way onto the field, but I really like Gomez. He's a workhorse. His senior year highlights are below.
