Sonoran Hot Reads: Jakob Poeltl playing for Pac-12 Player of the Year

Can Arizona derail the Utah big man's bid this weekend?

The Arizona Wildcats are set to start their toughest road trip of the year Wednesday night against the Colorado Buffaloes. This road trip is going to be all about rebounding for Arizona, as Colorado is one of the best in the country. Then the Cats run into Utah and Jakob Poeltl. Our friends over at Block U made the case for Poeltl as Pac-12 Player of the Year, citing one concerning thing for this week:

"Poeltl has been arguably the Pac-12's hottest player down the stretch, scoring 20-plus points in seven of the last nine games and recording double-doubles in the last three games, including a critical late season road swing through Los Angeles."

It should be interesting to see if Arizona can handle two-straight games of rebounding challengers, and if they can make Poeltl ineffective in his bid for Player of the Year

- Ahead of the trip, Sean Miller made an appearance on Scott Van Pelt's Sportscenter

- It's always funny to look at House of Sparky's weekly power rankings, because they overreact to everything and don't have Utah as a top-three team in the conference right now. Our power rankings will drop Wednesday afternoon

- Aaron Gordon had yet another crazy dunk

Football

- Pacific Takes ranked the worst Pac-12 games of the year last year, and Arizona appears a lot, including being involved in the very worst game (or best depending on if you're Zach Werlinger or not)

- We got some updates on the defense from those who know it best, in particular Rich Rodriguez and Marcel Yates

Baseball

- JC Cloney was named Pac-12 Player of the Week by Madness. Cloney also made an appearance in the first 'Three Up, Three Down' of the season

Softball

- Danielle O'Toole was named Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week for her performances against LSU and UCF

Other sports

- Rafael Quintero has qualified for the Puerto Rican Olympic diving team

Women's golf finished fourth at the Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate

Tucson news

- There are tons of sick people in Tucson, and it's impacting schools

- Speaking of schools, there may be mercury in gym floors around the state, so that's fun

- Gas is getting closer to being under a dollar
