Arizona football: Wildcats add Kansas State and Nebraska to future schedules

Here are some Power Five schools for you down the road

While both of these new series are many years away, the Arizona Wildcats have added a couple of Power Five schools to the future football non-conference schedules.

Arizona will play the Kansas State Wildcats in 2023 and 2024, and will also play the Nebraska Cornhuskers in 2028 and 2031.

Just for context, there are players that will be playing in that final 2031 game of this announcement that are currently two years old.

"We are excited to announce these future games against two outstanding programs," athletic director Greg Byrne said in a statement from the school. "While these games are a ways off, it is important for us to schedule competitive games that will be exciting for fans and recruits alike as we continue to strengthen all aspects of our football program."

The last two times Arizona has played Nebraska were both Holiday Bowls. The 2009 version did not go so well, but that 1998 one was pretty good. The only other time they've played came in 1961, when the two schools played to a 14-14 tie in Lincoln. Arizona went 8-1-1 that year.

The Wildcats will play the Huskers on September 16th, 2028 in Lincoln, and September 13th, 2031 in Tucson. They are split up because Nebraska also announced future games against Oklahoma in 2029 and 2030.

As for K-State, Arizona is 5-1-1 all-time against those Wildcats, but they have not played since 1978. Those games will be played on September 24th, 2024 in Manhattan, and September 13th, 2025 in Tucson.

Arizona does not have a Power Five school on its non-conference schedule until 2019, although BYU in 2016, 2018 and 2021 is pretty close. Houston should be pretty good too (2017 and 2018). The Wildcats play Texas Tech in 2019 and 2020, and will also have Mississippi State in 2022 and 2023.
