Arizona football recruiting: The latest on the Wildcats' targets

Another big day filled with recruiting goodness

Another busy day of recruiting for the Arizona Wildcats, and another recruiting roundup for the week. We have updates on quite a few uncommitted prospects remaining on Arizona's board, and things seem to be in decent shape. A few concerning visits for some other prospects, which will cause even more madness as we approach signing day.

Arizona currently has 13 commits for this class, leaving 12 open spots to fill in less than two weeks. The class is currently ranked 53rd in the nation and 11th in the Pac-12. That just shows how deep the Pac-12 is from top to bottom and how necessary recruiting is to staying on top. Although, with most of Arizona's recruits in this class, they are higher ranked 3-stars than what we've seen in the past, and also fit the schemes going forward.

While the rankings heavily stand on how many commits a class has, Arizona's average recruit rating is quite high, sitting at 85. For reference, Arizona State is currently sitting at 22nd and have an average class rating of 87. The difference is that they have 21 commits, as well as three additional 4-star prospects, bumping them up just a bit.

3-star corner Lorenzo Burns status

Seems as if Lorenzo Burns has his top three of Arizona, California and Colorado and will be visiting California this weekend. California has a lot of depth at corner in this recruiting class, including Traveon Beck, who was named first-team CIF defense this week and was once an Arizona target.

When you compare Arizona and Colorado, I just can't imagine someone of his ranking going to Colorado in this situation. I talk about Arizona competing to be the 4th-best spot in their own division a lot, but Colorado is dead last, and I can't imagine a guy like Burns is down for that based on our talks in the past.

Kee Whetzel has Arizona in top three

Arizona is in desperate need of size at the wide receiver position. They might find an answer with 3-star receiver Kee Whetzel, who checks in at 6-3 180lbs. He has a final three schools of Arizona, Maryland and UCF. He'll be heading out to Arizona soon, and I really like Arizona's chances for the Florida product.

He's had quite a road to get to where he is today, and family seems to be a big part in his decision, which makes me a little weary of Arizona. But based on his size, with the offense that Arizona runs, this is a great fit. Although, UCF has been producing a good amount of receivers over the last few years: Kamar Aiken, Breshad Perriman, Brandon Marshall and Mike Sims-Walker.

Josh Allen saga could be ending with good news soon

He got an in-home visit from Rich Rodriguez and he sent out this tweet afterwards. I was able to get an update on him afterwards, and he believes that he will still end up at Arizona. He still has visits with Miami and UCLA coming up and following this recruitment process has been an absolute drama. Still, through it all, he's always had that soft spot for Arizona and has said that he would likely end up there.

I definitely think having Marcel Yates on the staff helps, because Josh Allen had Boise State and Arizona as his top two prior to his commitment, as Boise State was one of the first schools on his recruitment process. He'll be committing on National Signing Day, February 3rd.

London Iakopo to visit Missouri

After coming off his Louisville visit, London Iakopo has scheduled a visit to Missouri. He received an offer last week and has clearly made an effort to get this process going. I said before once the coaching changes happened that I didn't think Iakopo would stick it out, or at least have the thought of a possible decommitment coming soon. He had an in-home visit with some members of the staff and it reportedly went well.

If he was firm on his commitment, he wouldn't be taking this visits. He first said that his Louisville visit was simply to compare Arizona to it because he had never been on a college campus other than Arizona's. Now with Missouri climbing aboard, this could get ugly.

Emmanuel Beal no longer visiting this weekend

When I spoke to Emmanuel Beal after receiving his offer from Arizona, he was ecstatic. He had said that this was the offer he had been waiting on. Now, it seems as if he will be visiting Oklahoma this weekend instead, and likely commit there as well.

He just picked up an offer from Oklahoma and I'd be shocked if he didn't end up with the Sooners, likely with Kapri Doucet as well. Mark that as three defensive studs that Tim Kish and the Sooners have been able to steal from Arizona.

Down to Arizona and Colorado for 2-star safety Jarrius Wallace

It's only a matter of time until Jarrius Wallace decides his future. He has his final two down to Arizona and Colorado, and I think the Buffs are likely to land him. Arizona would be a bit of a reach and based on the interview that I linked just above, it seems like Colorado has his interest.

With 13 spots to fill in this class, he would have been a nice addition, but it seems like Arizona will look elsewhere, and likely land a better safety before all is said and done.

Arizona in pursuit of former Stanford commit, 3-star safety

Arizona just hopped on the recruitment of 3-star safety Chacho Ulloa, and they quickly seem to be one of the leaders, along with Oregon. He had an in-home visit the Ducks this week, and will have an in-home visit with Marcel Yates later this week

Arizona offers 4-star 2017 defensive end Hunter Echols

While in Los Angeles, Arizona offered a hot 2017 prospect in Hunter Echols. He's a 6-4 220lb defensive end, ranked 17th in the nation among those at his position. Washington and Washington State have been in on his recruitment, but he says that UCLA is his dream school.

His highlights are below.
