Arizona will play New Mexico in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl

The Wildcats are heading to Albuquerque again

The Arizona Wildcats have accepted a bid to play in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl on December 19th against the New Mexico Lobos. The game kicks off at 2 PM ET, Noon local on ESPN.

After it was obvious that Stanford wasn't going to make the College Football Playoff, the New Mexico and Independence Bowls became the most likely landing spot for the Wildcats.

Three years ago, Arizona was in the New Mexico Bowl, and brought home a win against the Nevada Wolf Pack in dramatic fashion. It was probably the greatest New Mexico Bowl in the history of New Mexico Bowls. It also happened to be that whole 12-15-12 thing, where the basketball team took down the Florida Gators in McKale that night after the New Mexico Bowl trophy and the football team made an appearance at halftime. This time around, Arizona hoops will be hosting UNLV. The hoops game is at 7:30 PM MST, so a similar thing could happen again with the football game being so early.

The last time Arizona played New Mexico was in 2008, and the Lobos won that game, as they did in Tucson in 2007. It'll be tough to play a triple-option team on their home turf.

It's expected that Scooby Wright III will play in the game, as one last chance to showcase himself before possibly declaring for the NFL Draft. Wright has played in about five total quarters this year, injuring his knee in the opener against the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners, and then spraining his foot late in the loss to the UCLA Bruins three weeks later.

This game should also be a chance for Anu Solomon to return after missing the ASU game with a concussion. And if he is unable to go because of the concussion issues, I would fully expect to see Brandon Dawkins over Jerrard Randall based on what happened in that ASU game.

Get your travel plans ready, because we are taking over Albuquerque in two weeks!
