Arizona vs. ASU: Trey Griffey, DeAndre' Miller, and Casey Skowron are the Wildcats' Players of the Game vs. the Sun Devils

These three showed up to play in the rivalry game

The Arizona Wildcats lost to the arch-rival Arizona State Sun Devils and the Territorial Cup will be staying up North for the next year or so, but not everything was doom and gloom for Arizona. The team fought hard and a few players performed quite well. Here were three that stood out from the pack:

Offense: Trey Griffey

I could have gone with Brandon Dawkins here -- since he filled in admirably for Jerrard Randall -- but I felt Trey Griffey had the biggest impact in the game for the Wildcats' offense. He caught only two passes, but man, were they important.

His first catch came when the Wildcats were down 31-16 and pinned deep in their own territory late in the third quarter. They needed a 97-yard touchdown drive to make it a one-score game, and with the way Arizona struggled to move the ball throughout the game, it seemed unlikely. That is, until Trey Griffey made a huge play. Dawkins hit Griffey on a hook route about 12 yards from the line scrimmage, but it was the yards after catch that made the play what it was. Griffey crossed the field, weaved through defenders, and eventually made it all the way to the end zone for the 95-yard touchdown.

Then, Griffey's second catch came when Arizona was down 38-23 and the team was facing a seemingly insurmountable 3rd-and-21 situation. Brandon Dawkins floated a pass deep down the sideline and Griffey tracked it down and leaped over the defender to make the grab. It would go for 43 yards and the Wildcats would make it a 38-30 game shortly after. Without Griffey's heroics, Arizona wouldn't even have been competitive in this game. Thus, he's Arizona's offensive player of the game.

Defense: DeAndre' Miller

You would think Cam Denson would be an option here because of his pick-six, but other than that play, he had a rough game. So I'm going to go with someone that was consistent throughout the day. That person is DeAndre' Miller. I thought the linebackers played well against the Devils, and it was needed with Arizona's secondary being so banged up and just flat out bad. Miller had five tackles, three of which were in the backfield, and also had a sack. It might've been the best game of his career.

Oh, and shoutout to William Parks. The majority of Arizona's secondary struggled, but Parks had a solid outing. He led the team in tackles (9) -- including some that prevented big plays -- and had two tackles for loss.

Special Teams: Casey Skowron

When he's not making a big hit on a kickoff, Skowron is field goal kicking marksman. He made all three of his field goal attempts against, including a 46-yarder. It's the second week in a row that Skowron has made a field goal from 46+ yards out. The senior has had a great season -- he's only missed three field goals all year -- and will definitely be missed next year.
