Arizona Bowl Projections: Wildcats' chances are looking slim

Arizona's options are looking pretty slim now, with almost all projected opponents coming outside of power five conferences

The Arizona Wildcats' most winnable game resulted in a 49-3 loss up in Seattle this weekend, leaving the Wildcats with little to no hope for a bowl game.

Still, Arizona is being projected for some bowl games, which is odd considering they still have to face USC, Utah, and ASU.

Arizona continues to be projected to play up the road in Phoenix for the Cactus Bowl, which is being held in Chase Field this year. There's still a chance Arizona stays in Tucson to play in the Arizona Bowl as well.

When it comes to the other bowls, there is a significant drop off. Just a few weeks ago, these projections had Arizona playing Oklahoma, Texas, Iowa, and a few other solid teams. Now, it's looking like Arizona's final opponent would come from a non-power 5 conference, if they can even reach six wins.

Site Bowl Opponent Location Date
SB Nation Cactus Bowl West Virginia Phoenix, AZ January 2nd
CBS Sports Cactus Bowl Buffalo Phoenix, AZ January 2nd
Bleacher Report Poinsettia Bowl San Diego State San Diego, CA December 23rd
Schlabach (ESPN) Arizona Bowl Colorado State Tucson, AZ December 29th
McMurphy (ESPN) Heart of Dallas Bowl Western Kentucky Dallas, TX December 26th

At this point, it seems hard for me to believe that Arizona makes a bowl game, and if they do, the Cactus Bowl seems way too high, which make the bottom four on this chart the most likely.

Utah seems to be the most winnable game now, being at home, and a potential classic Rich Rodriguez upset special. Arizona has certainly had Utah's number these past three years, and if there's one team that people label as overrated, it's Utah.
