Arizona basketball: Wildcats open 2015-16 season with Red-Blue scrimmage

It's time for everyone to get excited about a scrimmage

We have finally reached the unofficial start of the Arizona Wildcats basketball season.

The Red-Blue Game will start at 1 PM PT at McKale Center. If you're going, parking is free in Cherry Garage and on surface lots, but also know that Arizona Band Day will be going on in Arizona Stadium, so the parking situation will be iffy at best, since a bunch of high school bands will be on campus throughout the day.

If you're unable to go to the Red-Blue Game on Saturday, you'll be able to watch it on tape delay later Saturday night. We'll have a recap of the action and main takeaways for you as well.

How to Watch:

Time: 9:30 PM PT, Saturday October 17th (Also 4:00 PM PT on Monday the 19th)

TV: Pac-12 Networks

Stream: Pac-12.com

What to Watch:

There are a lot of new players on this team, giving us so many things to watch. What will Ray Smith look like with regards to his knee? Who are Mark Tollefsen and Ryan Anderson, and are they actually good at basketball? Is Allonzo Trier the kind of player we've been led to believe he is?

These are probably tough questions to answer in a scrimmage, especially for a program that currently has 14 players on the roster. With them essentially running 7-on-7, there could be some interesting matchups throughout the game, and could determine who gets more playing time at certain positions.

The highlight of this thing though is always the slam dunk contest. I've been told by Mark Tollefsen that he'll want to show off his ability to play above the rim, so expect something big and creative from him. And Ray Smith will probably try to show everyone that his knee is 100% healthy with something nasty too. And then there's Gabe York, who tried to dunk a couple of times in games last year. I hope he drops the hammer during Red-Blue.

Also, just imagine Dusan Ristic going up strong, and then giving everyone the Triangle after he throws it down.

It's tough to know what to expect, other than that McKale will be rocking, and the slam dunk contest will breed some awesome video. Other than that, I think most of us are still just sitting and wondering what all of these new faces will bring to Arizona this year.
