Arizona basketball recruting: Lauri Markkanen verbally commits to Wildcats

Hey, a 2016 commit!

The Arizona Wildcats coaching staff is starting Red-Blue day on a positive note, as they have their first verbal commitment of the 2016 recruiting class.

Lauri Markkanen, a five-star PF out of Finland, has verbally committed to Arizona during his official visit per Scout's Evan Daniels.

Markkanen had already taken official visits to both Utah and North Carolina earlier this week, finishing up his tour in Tucson to take in the Red-Blue Game. But who needs the R-B Game when you commit the morning of?

The Finnish big man was at the Basketball Without Borders Global Camp in New York City, where DraftExpress caught up with him for this interview and highlights.

Markannen will add some more foreign flavor to the post for Arizona, joining will-be junior Dusan Ristic in 2016-17. With Ryan Anderson graduating this year as well as Kaleb Tarczewski, this commitment is big in the development of this team overall moving forward.

Now we await Mitch Lightfoot's decision next Saturday, then Josh Jackson and Andrew Jones after that.
