UCLA vs. Arizona: Wildcats players of the game

Who was actually good for Arizona?

That was an unfortunate showing by the Arizona Wildcats on Saturday against the UCLA Bruins, but there were actual bright spots around the team. So here's a look at who gets this week's Players of the Game nods:

Offense: Nick Wilson

By all metrics besides touchdowns, Nick Wilson actually outperformed Paul Perkins, and it wasn't really all that close. Both backs rushed the ball 24 times, and Wilson finished with 136 yards, while Perkins only picked up 85. Wilson was just gashing through holes consistently throughout the night, not having a single rush that resulted in a yardage loss. The Arizona pass protection may not have been great, but the run blocking game was on point.

Defense: Tellas Jones

Honestly, I couldn't tell you if anyone actually looked good on defense without going back and rewatching this (which I don't foresee happening), but Tellas Jones' numbers look pretty good compared to everyone else. He was tied for the team lead with six solo tackles, and also had a sack and a forced fumble. He seems like the most likely guy to fit that Tra'Mayne Bondurant mold, but more guys are going to need to perform a little better.

Special teams: Drew Riggleman

Riggleman basically wins this by default. Casey Skowron missed an extra point and a field goal, and Arizona was not able to return a kickoff or punt the entire night. Riggleman did average 49 yards on his three punts, and put two inside the 20. The one not inside the 20, he was in on the tackle. So he did have a good night, it's not entirely by default.
