Arizona football recruiting roundup

A few new items in the recruiting world for Arizona

Arizona's recruiting class has dropped a few slots on 247Sports, but only because of other teams landing either highly-touted guys, or just a significant number of commits recently. A little movement when it comes to "stars" from 247Sports rankings, as Josh Allen did drop to a 3-star according to 247's rankings, meanwhile Markell Utsey and Gavin Robertson are both 3-stars, making all of Arizona's commits 3-stars or better.

Lamar Jackson

A top 100 recruit was on campus this past weekend, and he really loved his visit. Ranked 5th among all safeties, Jackson could really play in a few different spots. Stay tuned for more on Jackson's recruitment soon.

Craig Watts

Some unexpected news from Craig Watts. He'll be taking an official visit to Colorado this weekend, which is odd considering his list of offers. He has a visit set up for October 24th for the Washington State game, which gives Arizona a gleam of hope.

Matthew Gutwald

Don't expect a decision to come from Matthew Gutwald anytime soon, but Arizona, Notre Dame and Stanford seem to be the top three. He really enjoyed his visit to Notre Dame last weekend, and Stanford might be getting back on track, and he's taking notice. Education is going to play a big part in his recruitment, but so is early playing time, something that might be easier to find at Arizona.

Josh Allen

Arguably Arizona's most prized commit of the 2016 class with Michael Eletise, he picked up an offer from Alabama and is in contact with USC. He says he will plan on taking his official visits to a few schools, and go from there. His loyalty is what's keeping him with Arizona for now, but the power programs could draw him away. But lately, on the Twitters, he's been pretty pro-Arizona, which is good to see.

N'Keal Harry

A while ago there was a report saying that N'Keal Harry's grandmother will play an important role in his decision. That makes things interesting for the in-state battle, and Arizona looks far superior than Arizona State over these first three games. I would say Texas A&M is still the leader for his services, but Arizona is still a very realistic option.

Richard Merritt

He's coming up on "warm" on his 247Sports recruiting profile, but I never heard anything about Arizona offering him before. He is a top-10 offensive guard, at 6-5 345lbs coming out of the DC area, with offers to virtually every power five team. If he were close to Arizona, I'm sure his name would have come up much more often.

Cameron Murray

Another defensive tackle prospect wouldn't hurt, but it doesn't seem likely that he'll be committing considering the depth. He wanted to wait to commit, and he'll probably be picking up a few more late offers as his season continues.

Malcolm Roach

Another "warm" prospect for Arizona, a 6-3 255lb defensive end out of Louisiana. I don't remember Arizona even offering him, but as of late July, Arizona made his top 11. Not sure how his recruiting process has come along since then, but this is definitely something worth looking into.

Eric Burrell

Made his top five publicly official on his Twitter account, leaving Arizona out. But his official visits on the 247Sports timeline kinda gave that away about a week ago.

Chase Lucas

He holds a bunch of top-tier offers, but his recruitment seems pretty open from what I have seen and heard. Washington might be the leader, but they already landed a top-10 running back over the summer in Sean McGrew, who plays similar to Lucas. He mentioned that he doesn't care about being the hometown hero at Arizona State, but he could definitely take over for DJ Foster immediately next year.

Greg Johnson

Arizona had a new offer on the table for a 2017 athlete in Greg Johnson out of Los Angeles. He's ranked No. 4 among all athletes and 50th overall, checking in at 5-10 185lbs. The crystal ball has USC trending, and a lot of Hawkins High kids have made the quick five minute trip to USC over the last few years.

Lorenzo Burns

Someone I think Arizona has a really good chance at. I've been catching up with him on his season and his recruitment lately, so stay tuned for more updates.

No updated news on guys like Brandon Burton, Boss Tagaloa or Elijah Battle. Hopefully more information on their recruitment surfaces.
