Arizona football recruiting: Lorenzo Burns picking up momentum

Are the Wildcats going to land the all-around player?

The Arizona Wildcats only have one corner for 2016, and I have a pretty good feeling that Arizona will land one more when all is said and done. Lorenzo Burns, the 112th ranked corner in the nation out of Linfield Christian (Temecula, CA), could be an option for Arizona.

Lorenzo has been a do-it-all kind of guy for Linfield Christian, playing quarterback, running back, receiver and defensive back. The Linfield Lions are 4-0 so far.

In those four victories, he's attempted 14 passes, completing seven, good for 75 yards and a touchdown.

Burns is actually the team's leading rusher, with 407 yards on 23 carries, which averages to 17.7 yards per carry. He's made his way to the end zone five times on the ground, scoring on just about every five carries. He only has five catches on the season, but he's totaled 87 receiving yards and two touchdowns, leading the team in total yards and touchdowns scored.

He's also accumulated 14 total tackles on defense. On special teams, he's returned four punts for 146 yards, returning two for touchdowns, and has taken one kick return for 35 yards.

As far as his recruitment goes, he's picked up an offer from Memphis recently, and feels like a BYU offer is coming soon. Burns has not scheduled any official visits, but has two in mind, and will start to contact coaches after he takes his SAT.

He's in no rush to commit, but he would like to wait until after his season, aiming to commit sometime in December.

I get a good feeling that Arizona is one of the two visits he plans on, just coming off an unofficial visit late last month. He won't release any top schools until he starts taking more visits, and at least until he visits the schools twice.

Arizona only has one defensive back commit for 2016 in Isaiah Hayes, a 6-0 175lb product out of Calabasas, CA. The corner depth is young, and Arizona has yet to see Antonio Parks on the field, who is recovering from his ACL injury. But in a 3-3-5 defense, defensive backs are a necessity.
