Arizona football recruiting: 4-star safety Eric Burrell leaves Wildcats off his top five list

Eric Burrell would have been a nice addition to this class, but there's still plenty to look forward to at the safety position.

One of the Arizona Wildcats' top remaining recruiting targets, 4-star safety Eric Burrell, has removed Arizona from his top list of schools. His top five now includes Duke, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Boston College, and Syracuse.

The Maryland product is currently on an official visit to Nebraska, and has already released his visit dates for the remaining schools.

So what does this mean for Arizona's remaining targets in the secondary? Arizona already has two safety commits in Gavin Robertson and London Iakopo. Robertson plays more of a spur role back in Washington at Auburn Mointainview. Meanwhile, Iakopo serves as a versatile defensive back for Long Beach City College, and could really be used as a spur, bandit or free safety.

For now, there are two 4-star safety products left for Arizona, Brandon Burton and Craig Watts. Burton's recruitment is difficult to read, with USC, UCLA, Florida State and Arizona all being realistic options. It's hard to imagine him following Khalil Tate here, but there's still an outside chance.

As for Watts, he says Wisconsin is his leader, but he will be taking an official visit to Tucson on October 24th.

Landing Watts or Burton would be a great addition for Arizona, but the safety depth moving forward looks fairly promising. With guys like Devon Brewer, Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles, Anthony Mariscal, and the addition of Iakopo next year, there's plenty of youth to look forward to. Plus, redshirt juniors Paul Magloire and Tellas Jones will still be around for another year.
