Former USC commit Melquise Stovall now on Arizona's radar for 2016

Possibly Arizona's last chance to land another weapon on offense for 2016

An offer late into the summer has been extended by the Arizona Wildcats to one of the top athletes in the west, former USC commit Melquise Stovall. He's the 4th ranked all-purpose back in the nation, ranked 166th among all recruits. The Paraclete (Lancaster, Calif.) product is on the smaller side, listed at 5-8 180lbs. He will be in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

Prior to his commitment to USC, he had interest in a handful of schools, including Washington, Washington State, Oregon State, Utah, Arizona, and Arizona State. He also had a lot of communication with Notre Dame. And Stovall picked up an offer from North Carolina just hours after his offer from Arizona.

He wasn't exactly pushed out of USC, but coaches had said they wanted him to solely play running back, where he believes that he can play running back, wide receiver and corner, with an emphasis at receiver to help his stock at the next level. Him wanting to be at receiver makes this an intriguing option, because that's a position that might be an area of concern for Arizona in two years.

He is a small receiver, which is the direction Arizona seems to be going with these incoming recruits. There is no 6-3, 6-4 red zone target in the making at Arizona, with many guys in the system barely reaching 6-0, if that.

I have not had the chance to talk to Stovall, or pick up a strong read on his options, but if there's a mutual interest, this could be a great option. It's hard for me to imagine that Arizona lands another offensive commit for 2016 other than linemen (Matt Gutwald and Bryson Cain), which would make Stovall a priority for the coaching staff.

N'Keal Harry seems likely to go to ASU or Texas A&M. Chase Lucas is probably ASU as well. And Florida State seems to lead for Brandon Burton right now. Outside of those three, Arizona doesn't appear to be in the mix for any other weapons.

I spoke with Khalil Tate after Stovall was officially offered and just know that he will be working on his recruiting pitches for Stovall.
