Arizona football: Scooby Wright, Freddie Tagaloa named to preseason watch lists

No surprises here

As predicted here on Thursday, both Scooby Wright III and Freddie Tagaloa were named to preseason award watch lists on Friday. Wright was named to the Nagurski watch list (one of many awards he won last year), while Tagaloa was named to the Outland Trophy watch list, which is given to the nation's top tackle.

The Nagurski Award is given to the nation's most outstanding defensive player, which Wright certainly was last year. The now junior linebacker led the nation with 2.1 tackles for loss per game, and ranked 4th in sacks (1 per game), solo tackles (7.1/game) and 5th in total tackles (11.6).

According to NFL.com, only one player has ever won the award twice. That was Northwestern's Pat Fitzgerald.

Tagaloa did not play last season, having to sit out after transferring to Arizona from Cal. Prior to the 2013 season, he was a preseason candidate for two awards given to college linemen. Everything that we've heard about him has been positive, and should give Arizona fans confidence that he'll be able to keep Anu Solomon clean and spring Nick Wilson for big runs in 2015.

This is Wright's second preseason watch list of the week. He's also on the Bednarik watch list with teammate William Parks. Solomon and Wilson were also named to the Maxwell watch list, and punter Drew Riggleman is on the Ray Guy watch list.

More award watch lists come out throughout the week next week as well, so stay tuned to see if Arizona has more guys added to these.
