NBA reportedly looking to delay 2020 draft again

It seems like forever ago that the Arizona Wildcats saw three-fifths of their starting lineup declare for the NBA Draft. In normal years that trio would have long since been drafted, but there’s been nothing normal about 2020.

So it shouldn’t be a surprise that ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting the NBA is “moving toward pushing back this year’s draft” that’s currently set for Oct. 16 due to a strong likelihood the 2020-21 season won’t begin on Dec. 1 as previously planned.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver said last week it was unlikely the Dec. 1 start date would happen. The current season set to run until as late as Oct. 13, depending on how long the NBA Finals go, and free agency is currently set to begin Oct. 18, though Wojnarowski reported that is likely to be moved back as well.

Josh Green, Nico Mannion and Zeke Nnaji all declared for the draft shortly after their freshman seasons at Arizona were cut short in mid-March because of the coronavirus pandemic. The 2020 NBA Draft was originally set for late June, meaning those players would have normally been part of a franchise for about two months by now but instead remain in basketball limbo.
