St. John’s guard LJ Figueroa to transfer to Oregon

Two of the Arizona Wildcats’ villains from last season are joining forces.
LJ Figueroa, who scored 21 points to help St. John’s beat the Wildcats last December in San Francisco, announced Saturday that he is transferring to the Oregon Ducks (whom the UA lost to in overtime twice in 2020).

The 6-foot-6 guard averaged 14.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.9 steals per game in 2018-19 for St. John’s as a sophomore. In two seasons with the Red Storm, Figueroa started 66 games and shot 37.3 percent from 3-point range.
His 21 points against Arizona came on 6-of-14 shooting in the 70-67 win, including a scoop shot just before halftime that put St. John’s up 14.
Ducks picked up new transfer LJ Figueroa. He’s already known for torching Arizona so I think he’ll fit in just fine here https://t.co/jT7PiPgZIU

The Wildcats rallied to make it a game late in the second half but couldn’t complete the comeback.
Figueroa is the third transfer Oregon has picked up this offseason, along with UNLV grad transfer guard Amauri Hardy—whom Arizona was interested in—and St. Peter’s point guard Aaron Estrada.
Figueroa will have two years of eligibility remaining, but it remains to be seen if that would start in November or not until the 2021-22 season. There’s also a chance he goes pro, according to Zach Braziller of the New York Post:
