Seattle grad transfer Terrell Brown commits to Arizona

NCAA Basketball: Seattle at St. Mary’s Neville E. Guard-USA TODAY Sports

Seattle grad transfer Terrell Brown has committed to the Arizona Wildcats, adding an immediate boost to the backcourt.

“The coaching staff was honest with me the first time we talked on the phone,” Brown told ESPN. “The relationship we built kept getting stronger and stronger, and I think we can continue to build it.”

The 6-foot-1 junior averaged 20.8 points, 6.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists for the Redhawks this season, earning all-WAC honors. Brown shot 41.5 percent from the field and 29 percent from 3, but only averaged 1.9 attempts 3s per game.

As you can see from this shot chart, he has a reliable mid-range game:

Brown also got to the free throw line at a healthy rate (5.7 FTA/game) and converted 78 percent of them. For someone with such a high usage rate, Brown posted a solid 10.8 turnover percentage, coughing the ball up just 2.9 times per game, giving him a solid 1.9 assist-to-turnover ratio.

With Nico Mannion expected to go pro, Brown will compete for a starting spot with Georgetown transfer James Akinjo (assuming he is immediately eligible) and Brandon Williams (assuming he is healthy), though it’s possible Brown could come off the bench or maybe even start alongside those two, though that would be an undersized lineup.

Arizona also returns Jemarl Baker Jr. and adds four-star recruit Dalen Terry, having no shortage of options in the backcourt.
