Former Arizona star Damon Stoudamire named WCC Coach of the Year

One of the greatest players in Arizona Wildcats history has picked up a big honor for the coaching job he’s done this season.

Ex-UA standout Damon Stoudamire, now in his fourth season as head coach at Pacific, was named the West Coast Conference Coach of the Year on Tuesday.

Stoudamire has led the Tigers to a 23-9 record this season, going 11-5 in the WCC to tie for third place. Pacific, which has won eight of its last nine games, will be the No. 4 seed in the conference tournament, which begins Thursday in Las Vegas.

A member of Arizona’s 1994 Final Four team, Stoudamire played for the Wildcats from 1992-95 and his 1,849 points are sixth-most in school history. He was a first round pick of the Toronto Raptors in the 1995 NBA Draft, playing with four teams during a 14-year career before moving over to coaching.

Stoudamire was an assistant at Arizona from 2013-15 then spent one season on Josh Pastner’s staff at Memphis before getting hired by Pacific.
