The Arizona Wildcats headed into their first true road game having split their last eight games, losing twice at home in that span to mid-major teams.

So naturally they put forth their best performance of the season against their toughest foe to date.

Mathew Dyer and Branden Boissiere combined for seven RBI to lead Arizona to an 8-6 win over the Texas Longhorns on Tuesday night in Austin.

The Wildcats (8-4) built an 8-0 lead through four innings, the big blows coming on a three-run home run by Dyer in the second inning and a two-run blast by Boissiere as part of a 4-run fourth. Texas (10-3) scored twice in the fourth and four times in the seventh but couldn’t complete the comeback despite a 10-to-4 hit advantage.

Arizona struck out 16 times but drew eight walks and had four batters hit by pitches, helping to produce six of its eight runs.

Vince Vannelle got the win after throwing 4.1 innings of relief after starter Dawson Netz only went one inning because of an injury. Four Wildcat pitchers combined to strike out 11 Texas batters, the 11th time they’ve done that in 12 games this season.

Arizona returns home Friday to host Houston in a three-game series, the last before Pac-12 play begins March 13 against Oregon State.
