The son of one of the greatest college and professional basketball players of all time is following in his father’s footsteps for his latest college destination.

Shareef O’Neal, a one-time Arizona Wildcats signee, has committed to play at LSU next season according to Sam Hellman of 247Sports.

The son of NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal, Shareef played sparingly for the UCLA Bruins this season as a redshirt freshman before announcing his transfer in late January. He sat out the 2018-19 season after undergoing surgery to repair a heart issue.

O’Neal signed a non-binding financial aid agreement with Arizona in November 2017 but decommitted in February 2018, shortly after ESPN reported hat UA coach Sean Miller was caught on a wiretap discussing a $100,000 payment to then-freshman Deandre Ayton. That report has never been substantiated, and to this day no such wiretap has been made public.

Shaquille O’Neal played at LSU from 1989-92, averaging 21.6 points, 13.5 rebounds and 4.6 blocks over three seasons before going No. 1 overall in the 1992 NBA Draft.
