Arizona women’s basketball falls two spots in AP Top 25 after Colorado loss

The Arizona Wildcats women’s basketball team has fallen two spots, from, 11th to 13th, in the latest AP poll after splitting the Rocky Mountain road trip.

Arizona (22-5, 11-5) routed Utah 85-69 on Friday before falling to Colorado 50-38 on Sunday, a game in which they shot 25 percent and “played scared,” according to coach Adia Barnes.

The Wildcats were without leading scorer Aari McDonald in both games as she nurses a lower leg injury. Her return date is unclear.

Arizona wraps up the regular season this week at home vs. No. 4 Stanford and Cal.

The fourth-place Wildcats have already clinched a first-round bye in the Pac-12 Tournament, but still can finish as high as third in the conference if they sweep the Bay Area schools and UCLA loses at home to Colorado and/or Utah.

Arizona is still trying to secure the right to host the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament, needing to capture a top-16 overall seed to do so. ESPN’s Charlie Creme currently projects Arizona as a No. 4 seed, just good enough to host.

The Wildcats need to avoid a loss to Cal, which enters the week 10-17 overall and 2-14 in the Pac-12.
