Not quite in the Top 10 but getting closer

The Arizona women’s basketball team is peaking at the right time.

With only three weeks until the postseason, the Wildcats have moved up a spot to No. 11 in the AP Top 25, their highest ranking of the season and their best mark since the 1997-98 campaign.

Arizona (21-4, 10-4) has won three straight and eight of its last nine, its lone loss coming at No. 3 Oregon on Feb. 7.

The Wildcats handily swept the Washington schools at home last weekend, winning both games by double figures. They head back on the road this week to face Utah (12-13, 5-9) and Colorado (15-10, 4-10).

Neither team is particularly good, but the Rocky Mountain road trip is always one of the toughest in the Pac-12 because of the travel and altitude. (It is the only trip in the conference that requires travel to two states.)

After that, the Wildcats will wrap up the regular season at home against No. 4 Stanford and last-place Cal.

ESPN’s latest bracketology, published on Feb. 11, pegs Arizona as a No. 4 seed, which means it would host the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament, a privilege afforded to the top-16 overall seeds.

Other Pac-12 teams in the AP Top 25: Oregon (3), Stanford (4), UCLA (8), Oregon State (15), Arizona State (21).
