Arizona women’s basketball rises in AP Top 25 after road sweep in Washington
The Arizona women’s basketball team is back in a familiar spot.
The Wildcats moved up three spots in the AP Poll this week, from No. 21 to No. 18, after coming away with a road sweep in Washington.
Arizona was ranked 18th for several weeks in a row before it dropped to 21st after being swept by the highly-ranked Oregon schools a couple weeks ago.
The Wildcats had a tough go of it in Washington, but ultimately showed an ability to battle through adversity on their way to a pair of wins.
On Friday, Arizona saw an 18-point lead trimmed to five in the final minutes but managed to hang on for a 74-67 victory. Cate Reese poured in a career-high 26 points.
Sunday, the Wildcats fell behind by 19 points in the first quarter before mounting a comeback in a 66-58 win over Washington. Capturing a road sweep is vital for Arizona’s hopes of finishing in the upper half of the ultra-competitive Pac-12.
Prior to that road trip, Arizona had lost three straight, all against top-10 teams.
The Wildcats host No. 16 ASU on Friday, looking to complete the season sweep of their in-state rivals. Arizona hopes to lure (at least) 10,000 fans to McKale Center.
