The Arizona Wildcats are a long ways away from competing with college football’s blue bloods for the country’s top high school recruits. But in the meantime they’re doing their best to mine for talent outside of the U.S., including their newest commitment.

Arizona has received a pledge from 3-star Canadian offensive lineman Leif Magnuson, who announced his commitment on Thursday morning.

The 6-foot-4, 270-pound Magnuson, who hails from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan but played high school football in Mississauga, Ontario, is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 1,408 player in the 2020 recruiting class as well as the 89th-best offensive guard.

He picked Arizona a day after earning a scholarship offer during a visit from UA offensive line coach Kyle DeVan. He also held offers from Boston College, Coastal Carolina, Indiana, Fresno State, Kansas, Kent State, Massachusetts, Syracuse, Texas State, Utah State and Washington State.

Magnuson is the 17th known commitment for Arizona in its 2020 class and second international addition, joining 3-star German receiver/tight end Roberto Miranda, one of 12 players who signed with the Wildcats in December.
