Unlike Alex Barcello, who is killing it at BYU, fellow Arizona Wildcats transfer Emmanuel Akot is not eligible to play for Boise State this season.

The junior’s waiver request was denied by the NCAA, sidelining him until the 2020-21 season. It was previously reported that Boise State applied for a waiver on Akot’s behalf “due to the ongoing FBI investigation at Arizona.”

The former four-star recruit averaged 2.5 points and 1.7 rebounds per game at Arizona, while shooting 39 percent from the field and 33 percent from 3.

Akot transferred midway through the 2018-19 season despite making 11 straight starts. He told the Idaho State Press that he chose Boise State because they are “really good with player development.”

“You could see with Chandler Hutchison, Derrick Alston, Justinian Jessup, a bunch of guys that can really play basketball and I think they can help me keep getting better and better,” Akot said. “I think even without me playing they have a lot of talented guys and they will be one of the best teams in the Mountain West and maybe the country.”

Barcello, who was granted immediate eligibility despite appearing in almost twice as many games as Akot last season, is averaging 12.0 points per game at BYU while shooting 54 percent from the field and 43 percent from 3. He has started in all three games for the Cougars, who are 2-1.
