Depending on your perspective, this year’s Arizona Wildcats team can be considered a bit of an underdog since not much was expected of it entering the season. With a 4-2 record at the midpoint, though, this team is no longer operating in the shadows.

Yet it is still having to play the role of underdog, at least from a point spread standpoint. VegasInsider.com has Arizona as an 8.5-point dog for its trip to USC on Saturday night, the start of a two-game road trip that could make or break its 2019 season.

USC (3-3, 2-1 Pac-12) and Arizona are part of a four-way tie for first in the South Division, along with ASU (5-1) and Colorado (3-3). Arizona has lost six in a row to the Trojans and four straight at the Los Angeles Coliseum, though those road defeats have been by a combined 36 points.

This will be the fourth time this season, and third game in a row, in which the Wildcats are the underdog. They won outright as the non-favorite over Texas Tech and at Colorado but couldn’t cover in their last game, losing 51-27 at home to Washington as 6-point dogs.

Overall, Arizona is 2-4-1 against the spread, while USC 3-3 ATS including a cover over the weekend when it lost 30-27 at Notre Dame as 10-point underdogs.
