Former Wildcat standout Lance Briggs nominated for 2020 NFL Hall of Fame

Arizona is one of a handful of major college programs never to produce an NFL Hall of Famer, but that could be about to change.

Linebacker Lance Briggs, one of the last stars from the Desert Swarm era, is among 122 players on the ballot for the 2020 Pro Football Hall of Fame class.

Briggs, 38, wrapped up a 12-year NFL career in 2014 when he played eight games for the Chicago Bears, the team that drafted him in the third round in 2003. He started 170 games for the Bears, finishing with 97 tackles for loss, 15 interceptions and 16 forced fumbles.

He made seven Pro Bowls, was an NFL All-Pro in 2005 and was part of the Bears’ Super Bowl-team in 2006.

Briggs played at Arizona from 1999-2002, beginning his career as a running back before getting moved to linebacker as a sophomore.

The 122-player nominee list will be pared down to 25 semifinalists in November and then 15 finalists in January. The 2020 HOF class will be officially announced in February.
