Arizona commit Dalen Terry now focused on recruiting other players

It took a while for the Arizona Wildcats to land their first 2020 commit, but now that they have one, the domino effect will begin.

Four-star wing Dalen Terry, who pledged to Arizona in July, told Gary Parrish of CBS Sports that he’s now playing the part of recruiter, starting in Colorado where Terry and several other of the nation’s top prospects participated in USA Basketball’s Junior National Team Minicamp.

“[Arizona coach] Sean Miller wanted me to commit [early],” Terry told CBS. “[The staff] wanted me to commit early because they knew I could get guys. So they told me a bunch of guys [to target], and then I came back [to them] with even more guys. We had a conversation about who to get at; I was just mentioning a lot of players. And they were saying, ‘Can we get them?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, you can get them.’ So I’m gonna keep recruiting them.”

Terry said some of the players he is recruiting include 2020 prospects like Dawson Garcia (4-star center), Adam Miller (4-star guard), DJ Steward (4-star guard), Jaden Hardy (5-star guard) and 2022 prospect Skyy Clark.

At the same time, Arizona’s coaching staff is using Terry’s commitment to sweeten its pitch to potential recruits.

Here’s what five-star guard Caleb Love, who has Arizona in his final six, recently told Rivals: “They want for me to come in and play with another guard. Dalen Terry just committed there so it could be him, or Adam Miller, he has them in his top ten, so I could play with one of them. With them, they want for me to play on and off of the ball and to show off my versatility and lead the team to a national championship.”

It’s no secret that good players want to play with other good players. It’s why Nico Mannion’s commitment was so critical for Arizona at this time last year. He committed, then Josh Green (his former AAU teammate), Terry Armstrong (a fellow Phoenix-area talent), and Zeke Nnaji followed suit.

“I give Nico a lot of credit because he was the first to jump on board,” Miller said in November. “True to being a great point guard, you lead from the front both on offense and defense, but oftentimes you lead off the court as well. He paved the way for others to join him.”

Maybe Miller will be saying the same about Terry this time around.
