Wildcat Wrap: Arizona continues shuffling football operations staff
It’s Monday which means it’s time to recap another week of all things Arizona Wildcats. Let us know in the comment section if we missed anything.

Baseball
- Arizona added two high school recruits and a transfer last week, one of whom was committed to national champion Vanderbilt.
- Here’s a story on former UA outfielder Cal Stevenson, who is finding a knack for getting on base in the minor leagues.
- Rising sophomore Randy Abshier will be starting in the Alaska League All-Star Game. He has a 1.68 ERA in six starts. Lefties George Arias and Blake Peyton also made the All-Star team. Arizona desperately needs to improve on the mound in 2020, so perhaps this is a sign of things to come.
- Fellow rising sophomore Austin Wells was named a starter in the Cape Cod League All-Star Game. He is hitting .311 with with six homers and 21 RBI.
- Lefty Gil Luna had a good week:
1⃣2⃣ innings. 2⃣1⃣ strikeouts. 0⃣ earned runs. @LunaJr_ is on one, and it earned him Summer Player of the Week honors!#MLBTrainingGround | #BearDown pic.twitter.com/f685fWDyfX

- Ka’Deem Carey is thriving in the CFL.
- Arizona made more changes to its football operation staff, announcing the hire of Cass Petty as the new assistant director of football operations.
- In related news, Arizona parted ways with director of recruiting operations Chris Singletary. who accepted a position at Gilbert High School. Arizona replaced Singletary with former Georgia Tech staffer Cody Moore.
- Singletary is just the latest recruiting staffer to leave Arizona since last season. Andy Vaughn, the former senior director of recruiting and high school relations, left for a player personnel role at Miami. Meanwhile, former director of on-campus recruiting Christina DeRuyter left for the same position at Texas Tech. The reason for the changes is not clear. Singletary was a holdover from Rich Rodriguez’s staff, but the other two were brought in by Sumlin after he was hired in January of 2018, so it’s not necessarily a case of Sumlin clearing the deck so he can bring in his own people. Arizona’s 2019 recruiting class ranked 10th in the Pac-12, so perhaps Sumlin felt a change was necessary in order to start attracting more high-level recruits to Tucson. Or maybe those aforementioned staffs left on their on volition.
