Louis Boyd didn’t put up huge numbers during his two seasons with the Arizona Wildcats, though the middle infielder was a key part of the 2016 College World Series team as a junior.

The Seattle Mariners saw something in Boyd, taking him in the 24th round of the 2017 MLB Draft, but apparently that wasn’t just as a player.

The 25-year-old Boyd was named manager of the Everett (Wash.) AquaSox on Tuesday, tabbed with leading the Mariners’ Short-season Class-A team in the Northwest League for the remainder of the season.

Boyd had been working as an assistant for Seattle’s High-A team in Modesto, Calif. prior to the announcement. He played in the Mariners’ organization in 2017-18, hitting .240 with two home runs and 50 RBI in 148 games for four different teams.

Boyd will make his managerial debut Tuesday night in Vancouver, B.C. (his hometown) against the Vancouver Canadians.
