Arizona adds Oklahoma transfer Shaina Pellington

The Wildcats pick up their second transfer of the day

Arizona head coach Adia Barnes posted to Twitter, “Today is a good day.”

A few seconds later it was, “Today is a great day.”

Arizona women’s basketball added Oklahoma transfer Shaina Pellington shortly after adding Penn State grad transfer Amari Carter.

Pellington, a 5-foot-7 native of Pickering, Ontario, Canada, has played for the Canadian national team and was the Big XII Freshman of the Year in 2018. She averaged 13.1 points per game while shooting 49.2 percent from the floor that season.

Pellington averaged 13 PPG again during the 2018-19 season, but ran into some problems and was held out of the final five games by coach Sherri Coale due to unspecified violations of team rules.

In March, Pellington announced that she would be transferring. She visited Arizona earlier this month and announced her commitment earlier today on Twitter.

Pellington will be a junior in 2019-20, but will have to sit out due to NCAA transfer rules. After adding Pellington and Carter, Arizona’s roster should be set for the upcoming season.
