ASU vs. Arizona score predictions

Will the Wildcats avoid the sweep?

The Arizona Wildcats (17-13, 8-9) will close out the regular season Saturday with a rivalry game against the Arizona State Sun Devils (20-9, 11-6)

ASU is looking for its first sweep of Arizona since the 2007-08 season, but KenPom gives Arizona a 56 percent chance of winning with a projected score of 71-70.

Tipoff is at 2 p.m. MST on CBS.

Here is what we think will happen. Be sure to leave your predictions in the comment section below.

Brian J. Pedersen — Arizona wins 76-71

Nothing else matters as long as you beat the Scum Devils, right? If this were football, sure, but not hoops. Beating Arizona State has become expected, and not just earning a season split like Arizona has a chance to this year. Winning this game doesn’t have as much extra on it as it did a few days ago, because the Wildcats’ Pac-12 tournament seed possibilities have narrowed, but it’s still a big game. Arizona held its own at ASU in January despite having only seven fully healthy players, and assuming Chase Jeter is able to run without limping the combination of him and a ‘full go’ Brandon Williams will be the difference.

Christopher Boan — Arizona wins 71-68

It’s been a long winter for the Arizona Wildcats, with an ominous cloud of uncertainty lurking in the distance. That said, there’s nothing better for Sean Miller and his band of merrily unpaid men than beating the hell out of Bobby “Expletive” Hurley to close out the season. I would not be shocked if Chase Jeter and Brandon Williams go off against the Sun Devils, or if ASU somehow runs the Wildcats out of the gym. I’ll go with Arizona winning this one, because I have a gut feeling that the Devils will implode and Bobby’s head will turn a shade of maroon-red that mirrors the Tempe-based university’s unfortunate color scheme.

Ronnie Stoffle — Arizona wins 81-67

I don’t think it’s fair to expect the Wildcats to shoot 14-28 from three-range again. However, Brandon Williams will play in this game and it’s the last home game of the year. Ryan Luther and Justin Coleman will be honored for their contributions to the 2018-19 season. Arizona will win convincingly.

Zant Reyez — Arizona wins 79-78

First things first. I have to send a big congrats to the women’s basketball team for getting a win in the Pac-12 tournament. They put up a fight against Oregon, and leave little doubt that the program is rising. Arizona women’s basketball can no longer be seen as an afterthought thanks to Adia Barnes.

With that typed, I think Arizona plays its best game of the year and hangs on to send ASU back to Phoenix with the L.

Ryan Kelapire — Arizona wins 73-69

If Jeter plays I expect the Wildcats to find a way to grind out a win. Not even sure how to explain how it will happen since ASU is clearly the better team, but it is senior night and a rivalry game, so weird things are bound to happen.
