Arizona Marvelous Ideas: Wildcat Wrap: Recapping a busy week of Arizona Athletics

It’s Monday which means it is time to recap another week of Arizona Athletics. If we missed anything, be sure to add it in the comment section below.

A rainout delayed the Wildcats (6-4) from playing in renovated Rita Hillenbrand Stadium by a day, but they wound up going 3-2 in the Hillenbrand Invitational when all was said and done.
The Wildcats lost to USF and No. 7 Alabama, but beat New Mexico, Illinois-Chicago and Cal State Fullerton. Check out our softball section for recaps from all five games. It has not been the best start, but the Wildcats think their early struggles will benefit them moving forward. The main problems so far have been defense and a lack of timely hitting.
Arizona will be in Palm Springs, California this weekend for the Mary Nutter Classic where it will face Missouri, UC Santa Barbara, No. 20 Oklahoma State, Long Beach State and No. 3 Oklahoma.

Arizona (4-0) absolutely destroyed UMass Lowell in a four-game series, tallying 57 hits, 27 extra-base hits, 47 walks, 64 RBI, and 69 runs. Check out our baseball section for the recaps and in-depth coverage.
Hall of Famer Trevor Hoffman had his jersey retired on Opening Day.
The Wildcats head to Texas for games against Rice and Houston this season. UA plays Rice on Wednesday then Houston Friday-Sunday.
Former UA third baseman Bobby Dalbec was listed as the Boston Red Sox’s No. 3 prospect by MLB.com.

Arizona (17-8, 7-7 Pac-12) was “embarrassed” on Jan. 6 after losing 80-64 to Utah, but the ‘Cats redeemed themselves with a 66-55 win over the Utes on Friday. Aari McDonald scored 26 points, but that was just the cherry on top for her week.
McDonald was named to the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award and the Dawn Staley Award watch lists. The Ann Meyers Drysdale award is given to the best guard in the nation, while the Dawn Staley goes to the best shooting guard.
Arizona completed its sweep of the Rocky Mountain schools on Sunday with a 63-51 win over CU. It’s the first sweep for the program since 2011, and Arizona’s seven conference wins are its most since that year, too.
The Wildcats are in good shape for a postseason bid, and head to the Bay Area to take on No. 10 Stanford on Friday and Cal on Sunday.

UA improved to 6-1 on the season with a 6-1 win over Fresno State. Doubles teams of Jonas Maier and Carlos Hassey and Alejandro Reguant and Filip Malbasic got wins for the ‘Cats.

Arizona (14-12, 5-8 Pac-12) lost two games during the week to extend its losing streak to seven games, its longest losing streak since the 1982-83 season.
UA was swept by the Rocky Mountain Schools, losing to Utah 83-76 on Thursday and 67-60 to Colorado on Sunday.
