Ex-Arizona forward Emmanuel Akot to transfer to Boise State

The former Wildcat has found a new home

Former Arizona Wildcats forward Emmanuel Akot is set to transfer to Boise State, according to the Exum Elite Twitter account, which Akot retweeted.

The 6-foot-7 Canadian is finishing up the spring semester at the UA, so he will join the Broncos in the summer. The sophomore will have to sit out the 2019-20 season before having two years of eligibility at Boise State.

Akot unexpectedly announced his decision to transfer from Arizona in January after the Wildcats returned from the Bay Area road trip.

The timing was curious because Akot had started in 11 straight games and the Wildcats were unbeaten in conference play at the time. His departure has hurt Arizona’s frontcourt depth ever since, especially with Chase Jeter missing two games with back spasms.

Akot was originally a 2018 recruit, but reclassified so he could join the Wildcats as a freshman in 2017-18.

His career in Tucson was underwhelming considering his pedigree. The former-five star recruit averaged just 2.5 points and 1.7 rebounds in 48 games at Arizona, never scoring more than seven points in a contest and never turning into the defensive stopper the Wildcats hoped he could be.

Perhaps a change of scenery will serve Akot well. Ironically, Boise is where the Wildcats were massacred by Buffalo in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last season.
