Colin Schooler included in ESPN’s ‘too-early’ 2019 All-American team
The 2018 season wasn’t a good one, by and large, for the Arizona Wildcats, save for a few individual accomplishments. J.J. Taylor finished second in the Pac-12 in rushing, earning him first-team all-conference honors, while Colin Schooler had the second-most tackles for loss in the league.
Yet Schooler didn’t get similar recognition from the Pac-12 as did Taylor, despite his efforts, only managing an honorable mention nod.
Maybe 2019 will be different. ESPN seems to think so, including the Arizona linebacker on its “too-early college football 2019 All-American team.”
Here’s what ESPN’s David Hale had to say about Schooler, who will be a junior next season:
Arizona’s defense might not be a marquee unit, but don’t overlook what Schooler has accomplished in two seasons in Tucson under two different coordinators. In 2017, Schooler was the Pac-12’s Defensive Freshman of the Year, racking up 95 tackles, four sacks and 13.5 TFL. In 2018, he improved those numbers across the board. His 119 tackles ranked second among returning Pac-12 defenders, and his 21.5 tackles for loss were fourth nationally among linebackers. Schooler added 3.5 sacks, four QB hurries and four pass breakups, too.
Schooler is one of four Pac-12 players on the list. The others are Stanford offensive tackle Walker Little and cornerback Paulson Adebo and Utah defensive tackle Leki Fotu.
