Arizona’s Cate Reese named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week

She is the first-ever Wildcat to win the nomination twice

Arizona Wildcats forward Cate Reese was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week on Monday, becoming the first-ever Wildcat to win the nomination twice.

Reese averaged 17 points, five rebounds, and two steals on 58 percent shooting in Arizona’s losses to No. 10 Oregon State and No. 5 Oregon on Friday and Sunday, respectively.

It was a much-needed breakout weekend for Reese, who had been struggling against Pac-12 competition, still getting adjusted to size, speed, and skill of the conference.

The former McDonald’s All-American is averaging 12.1 points and 7.8 rebounds per game, with a solid shooting line of .464/.353/.854. She is first in rebounding and second in scoring among Pac-12 freshmen.

Arizona (13-5, 3-4 Pac-12) returns home to host USC and UCLA this weekend.
