Report: Arizona, St John’s finalizing deal to play at Chase Center in 2019-20

The Arizona Wildcats and the St John’s Red Storm are close to finalizing an agreement to play in the newly-constructed Chase Center in San Francisco next season, according to Zach Braziller of the New York Post.

The matchup is reportedly set for Dec. 21, 2019. The Chase Center is the new home of the Golden State Warriors. The 2019-20 season will be its first year in operation.

The Red Storm have not made the NCAA Tournament since 2015, but they are expected to compete for a bid this season thanks to a strong junior class that includes former Arizona guard Justin Simon. It remains to be seen if that group will still be in school when the reported matchup against Arizona takes place.

The Wildcats should be much improved in 2019-20, bringing in a strong recruiting class that includes five-star prospects Nico Mannion and Terry Armstrong to complement what could be a strong group of returning players.

Arizona is also set to host the Illinois Fighting Illini in 2019-20 as part of a home-and-home series, and will face the Baylor Bears on the road as well.

The Wildcats have only played St. John’s once in program history, taking down the Red Storm 81-72 in November 2011 at Madison Square Garden.
