Arizona expects to sign 5-6 recruits in 2019

Which means at least three more commits are on the way

The Arizona Wildcats picked up two commits in September, but their work to build the 2019 recruiting class is far from over.

Head coach Sean Miller said Monday that he expects to sign five or six players in 2019, meaning the UA will be adding at least three more to complement five-star point guard Nico Mannion and three-star center Christian Koloko.

“Well, we’ve had 10 recruiting classes and we’ve signed 52 players to the national letter of intent. That’s a lot of information there,” Miller said. “So if I’m a predictor, I would say that in the 11th recruiting class, which is the one we’re currently in, you know, give or take, we’ll probably bring in five or six.”

Miller said Arizona hopes to sign three or four recruits in November’s early signing period. The UA coaching staff has been extremely active on the recruiting trail in recent months, leading the school to be linked to a bevy of highly-ranked prospects.

Four-star guard Boogie Ellis officially visited the UA this past weekend, and here are some other visits on tap this month:

  • 4-star guard Terry Armstrong — Oct. 5
  • JUCO foward Khalid Thomas — Oct. 5
  • 5-star forward Jeremiah Robinson-Earl — Oct. 12
  • 4-star forward Zeke Nnaji — Oct. 13
  • 5-star wing Josh Green — Oct. 13

Arizona is also one of several finalists for four-star forward Drew Timme, who was visited by the UA staff last month. Arizona has offers out to many other prospects too, a list of whom can be found here.

But it will be interesting to see how the Wildcats create room to bring in five or six recruits (though these things always seem to work themselves out). They currently have 11 players set to be on scholarship in 2019-20, including Cornell graduate transfer Stone Gettings.

The maximum is 13.

That means players transferring or leaving for the NBA Draft is inevitable. Unlike most years, the Wildcats do not have any clear-cut NBA prospects on their roster, making the impending roster crunch even more intriguing.
