How Arizona’s commits performed in Week 5
Not many future Wildcats were in action this past weekend
The Arizona Wildcats had a great weekend as they destroyed Oregon State and started conference play 1-0.
Meanwhile, on high school fields around the country, only a few future Wildcats continued on with their seasons. Most commits had a bye week while they reach the halfway point of their senior seasons.
Let’s take a look at how the future of UA performed.
Grant Gunnell, QB, St. Pius X
Result/Score: Home victory against Manor, 46-34
School Record: 4-0 (0-0)
Game Stats: 26-for-40, 436 yds, 6 TD, 1 INT; 5 car, 92 yds, 1 TD
Season Stats: 100-for-150, 1682 yds, 19 TD, 1 INT; 19 car, 217 yds, 5 TD
Game Notes: This game was tough for Gunnell and the Panthers, but they ended up showing their grit. Down 34-21 at halftime, Gunnell led a hell of a comeback. Using his arm and his legs, the Panthers scored 25 unanswered points for a 46-34 comeback victory. This is against a Manor team that has tons of D1 talent as well. Overall it was another impressive performance for Gunnell and the whole SPX team. Gunnell’s performance earned him the MaxPreps Polynesian Bowl Player of the Week. On the recruiting front, Gunnell will be back in Tucson this weekend as the ‘Cats take on USC. He will be meeting his friend Jaylen Ellis, who is taking an official visit to Arizona.
