Arizona walk-on WR Stanley Berryhill III awarded a scholarship

He is poised for a breakout season

Stanley Berryhill III is officially a scholarship wide receiver for the Arizona Wildcats, fulfilling the goal he set for himself at the turn of the new year.

Berryhill walked on to the team last season by the way of Orange Lutheran High School, though he is originally from Tucson.

The redshirt freshman made some noise last fall camp but did not crack the rotation. Then he turned the heads of the new coaching staff this spring, and has made significant strides to becoming a key target in Arizona’s offense.

“Stanley Berryhill has improved this year a lot,” Arizona cornerback Jace Whittaker said. “He’s going to step up and I think you guys are going to see him a lot this year, making some exciting plays on Saturday nights.

Berryhill is now in line to pick up a heavy workload this season. With Noel Mazzone’s quick-pass and receiver-screen offense, Berryhill fits the mold perfectly.

The 5-foot-9, 172 pounder is shifty in the slot, combining speed and elusiveness that has made him one of the toughest receivers to cover in practice.

“Very quick and shifty,” is how Whittaker described Berryhill’s game. “He can change speeds. You know he knows what he’s doing with the ball.”
