Arizona softball resumes play, gets run-ruled by Oregon

The Ducks will go for the sweep later Sunday

The Arizona softball team lost 8-0 in six innings to the No. 5 Oregon Ducks on Sunday in Eugene.

It was a continuation of Saturday’s game, which was suspended after five innings due to heavy rain in the area.

It’s the second straight loss for the ninth-ranked Wildcats, who dropped Friday’s series-opener, 6-2.

Coming off the best outing of her Arizona career, Alyssa Denham was tagged for five runs (two earned) on eight hits in 4.1 innings.

The Ducks used an RBI single, a UA throwing error, and an RBI triple to take a 3-0 lead in the first.

That remained the score until the fifth when Mary Iakopo lined an RBI double into left-center before Lauren Lindvall singled through the left side to plate a run.

That chase Denham from the game. She was relieved by Tucson native Gina Snyder who made her Arizona debut.

Snyder, a transfer from Purdue, recorded the final two outs of the inning, then play was paused until Sunday afternoon.

Snyder stayed in the circle when play resumed, and the Ducks would pile on three runs in the sixth to complete the run-rule.

Two runs scored on an error by UA shortstop Jessie Harper, and another scored on a wild pitch. All three runs were unearned.

Arizona’s offense never got going, being limited to just three hits against Miranda Elish, who struck out 13 in a complete-game effort.

Arizona falls to 27-8 overall and 6-5 in the Pac-12. The Wildcats are 0-5 on the road in conference play.

The Ducks will go for the sweep Sunday at 3 p.m. PT on the Pac-12 Networks.
