Arizona baseball beats Bryant 10-1 to sweep opening series
Nick Quintana had four hits, and Avery Weems had a successful debut
Arizona baseball beat Bryant 10-1 on Sunday to sweep the opening series of the season.
A four-hit day by Nick Quintana and a three-RBI performance from Cameron Cannon powered Arizona’s offense.
The Wildcats lineup provided plenty of run support for starter Avery Weems, who allowed just one run and six hits over 5.1 innings pitched.
Weems, a junior college transfer, struck out three batters while walking two.
Arizona put up a three-spot in the first inning. Alfonso Rivas got things going with an RBI sac fly, followed by RBI singles by Cannon and Cesar Salazar.

Weems’ lone allowed run came on an RBI single in the top of the second.
Arizona added to its lead with a four spot in the third inning.
A sac fly by Salazar scored the first of the runs. From there, the Wildcats let Bryant’s pitching staff commit unforced errors.
With the bases loaded, Bryant walked in three straight Arizona batters before finally getting out of the inning.
Arizona scored three more runs in the eighth inning off an RBI single by Quintana and a two-run double by Cannon.
The Wildcats now travel to San Diego where they’ll take on Arkansas on Wednesday before competing in the Tony Gwynn Classic this coming weekend.
