Rich Rodriguez congratulates Kevin Sumlin on landing Arizona job

He also said Rhett and Raquel will continue to attend the UA

The Arizona Wildcats hired Kevin Sumlin as their new head football coach Sunday.

The ex-Texas A&M coach replaces Rich Rodriguez who spent six seasons at Arizona and complied a 43-35 record.

Rodriguez was fired earlier in the month amid sexual harassment allegations. He released a statement on Twitter shortly after the Sumlin hire was made official Sunday to congratulate his successor.

Here it is in its entirety.

Congratulations to the University of Arizona to Coach Kevin Sumlin.

I am sure he will have great success with the most remarkable group of football student-athletes in the country.

We have been incredibly blessed to be a art of the Wildcat family and Tucson community for over six years and are fortunate that our children Rhett and Raquel are continuing their education at the UofA.

Welcome Coach Sumlin.

Coach Rich Rodriguez.

It’s a gracious gesture by Rodriguez whose tenure at Arizona came to an abrupt end.

It also appears Rodriguez confirmed that Rhett Rodriguez, a freshman quarterback, will remain with the team too.

Some had wondered what his future would be with program after his father’s dismissal.

Raquel is a senior cheerleader.
