Arizona WRs coach Theron Aych to be retained by Kevin Sumlin

Aych joined the program in the spring of 2017

Arizona Wildcats wide receivers coach Theron Aych is being retained by Kevin Sumlin, per Football Scoop.

Aych, pronounced like the letter H, joined Arizona in February 2017, replacing Tony Dews who left for West Virginia. Part of what made Aych appealing for Rich Rodriguez at the time was his recruiting ties in Texas.

Prior to joining the UA staff, Aych was the receivers coach at UTEP for a season, and before that he was the offensive coordinator/assistant head coach at Angelo State (in San Angelo, Texas) for five seasons.

Sumlin is planning to recruit Texas aggressively, so Aych’s connections should continue to come in handy there.

Arizona has four commits from Texas in its 2018 recruiting class after having virtually none throughout Rodriguez’s tenure.

Aych’s return also means the wide receiver position will have the most continuity in 2018.

Not only is the position coach back, but Arizona is only losing one of its top five receivers — speedster Tyrell Johnson.

So look for that unit to take step forward next season after a decent showing in 2017.

While Aych’s retainment is not official yet, the UA is expected to announce the coaching staff in full any day now.
